What is BIZ KID$?
In partnership with Community Futures Lakeland the Biz Kids program is offered to
youth ages 10-16 years. It is designed to promote youth entrepreneurism within our
Timing - May/June to August
BizKids Program consists of:
Small business training through guided workshops
Are you an Entrepreneur?
Types of Business ownership
Naming your Business
Marketing your product or service
Advertising and pricing
Financial & Time Management
Running a small business
Business plan development
Mentor assistance from local community/business members
Following the completion of the workshops, up to $100 seed capital is provided to start their summer
business. Our participants in the Biz Kids program are paired up with a community/business member
whom they contact on a weekly basis by phone or email to update the progress of the business. Once
a month they meet and discuss future events in which the Biz Kids participant is attending and give
helpful advice to make this summer business a huge success. Many of our Biz Kid Businesses
remain active at farmer’s markets and fairs long after the program has finished.
Our Mentorship component is a volunteer project to get the community involved with our youth whom
will be the future business owners in our neighborhood. It gives companies and employees a chance
to have great success and fulfillment while only providing about ten hours of their time.
At the end of the summer a wrap up celebration is planned to thank all of our sponsors, mentors,
parents and Biz Kid business owners. Awards, gifts and recognition are in abundance and a feast to
celebrate the Biz Kids achievements.
